Back on the ball: OLIVER, a great partner after weeks of inactivity

The return to training after weeks of inactivity, for low-season, holiday or seasonal renewal means a time of fundamental work for the whole team. Because it´s during those beginnings that the group work to re-adapt and re-perform to the fullest.

We are at that time of the year when football teams are  getting ready for the new seasons:

Having GPS trackers in the preseason has become a key complement for the entire team. Here we explain why:

The daily routine is lost after players have been out of training for a while. In the circumstances in which we currently live with the Covid-19, football was also forced to stop its activities at different times of the year depending on diverse variables in each country. That’s why getting back to routine, catching up physically and consolidating the team is where the importance of preseason lies.

In what ways do GPS trackers, such as OLIVER, become a great ally against preseason training?

  • Physical training:

For the player to regain his optimal physical level, OLIVER provides key insights to help improve the performance: information translated into metrics on distance covered, maximum speeds, intensities, among others. Allowing a training-by-training comparison of evolution in physical and resistance terms.

OLIVER is a GPS tracker that is placed on the calf- sleeve and allows you to return to training more safely and play more comfortably since you do not need any extra invasive element as vests can be. In addition, as an advantage, it provides football metrics such as ball kicks and kick power, valuable information to return to the field better than ever.

Coaches & physical trainers can obtain players' data allowing them to prepare training according to the need of each one, so as not to demand too much if they are not 100% prepared. OLIVER helps what is called Player Readiness

  • Psychological and health aspects:

In addition to trust and cohesion in teamwork, which are the basis of football, players must feel good mentally and physically in order to perform at the highest level. Health and psychological aspects are fundamental to be worked after weeks of inactivity. OLIVER allows players to load their perceived exertion of a training session or match, allowing the coach to control the internal load. In turn, they can select the emotional state of each day, to understand the influence of it on performance and injuries. The mood changes each day and clearly affects the way everyone plays.

Wilson Espina, physical trainer of Nacional Football Club de Montevideo, reflects on what it involves to return to training after weeks of inactivity:

The Return to Sports Activity implies a great challenge for the specialists in Conditioning and Strength Training. Monitoring the external load from mechanical variables such as time-space and movement in a precise way and with a scientific method through Technology is essential when prescribing complementary tasks and training.

GPS trackers are a useful tool, they are our scanner or tester, and allow us to design a custom armor for each athlete, respecting the principle of individuality and at the same time it complements  the programming of strength training.

There is a close relationship between load and injury incidence from the foundations of the principles of adaptation, load adequacy and progressivity. They should be essential in describing, identifying and manipulating our interventions. Data represents a result that tries to value and to respect individuality, maybe players  must enter "Boxes" to complement his "immune system" or protector.
